On my KO Rapid the distance settings match the rangefinder fairly precisely.
The rangefinder is very accurate at focussing, it can be a bit of a
hindrance. In nearly every situation a quick estimate of the distance and
the usual stopping suffices. The hyperfocal distance can be used. The degree
of sharpness attained ultimately depends on the focal length of the lens,
the F stop, the distance it is at set at and the distance from camera to
subject. Also shutter speed, film type, correct exposure and careful
processing play a role in the sharpness of the taken image. These topics are
well covered in many earlier photo books. A knowledge of depth of field is
particularly useful. With it you not only know what is in focus but can more
readily visualise the final result.
